Polished finish Vs. Hammered finish

- Polished

To achieve a refined look, the polished brass finish is the best option to choose.

Note however, that these polished-brass mailboxes are crafted by hands in an old fashioned way by the most skilled artisans.

With this hand-crafting, slight imperfections are normal and just a part of the fabrication and not defects. This finish can be expected to show more imperfections than the counterpart hammered finishes.

- Antique hammered

The hammered finish provides a more rustic look. The finish is also handcrafted; buffed, scuffed and hammered.

Just like with polished finish, some imperfections can also be noticed. You might see some scuff (sanding) marks.

However, this is what creates the character of the finish. All these mailboxes are skillfully hand-made and its antique finish is also hand applied.

Some mailboxes may be lighter while others tend to be darker. The color for the mailboxes may differ according to various lighting conditions.

Note:  Brass mailboxes in polished, black bottom or antique brass come with a lacquer finish that serves as their protection. On the other hand, the copper mailbox types don’t have a lacquer finish. Given this, a natural patina may occur over time.

Finish protection

Preserve your polished finishes by applying a clear, no buff car wax. When applying, clean your mailbox first using a warm soapy water and soft-texture cloth.

After washing, dry it well and apply the no-buff wax. The polished brass finish is not ideal for places with corrosive salt-air.
